Empowering Youth

Living is learning

"All of the top achievers I know are life-long learners... Looking for new skills, insights, and ideas. If they're not learning, they're not growing... not moving toward excellence." - Denis Waitley

Continuing education has never been as important as it is today. For people of all ages, lifelong learning is the key to longer, healthier, more satisfying and productive lives. The information revolution demands changes not only in what you learn but also in how you learn in the classroom and beyond. To keep up with the times you have to know not only how to access information, but also how to think and use the information wisely.

The sky is the limit.

Your brain is an incredible organ. It is amazing how your brain absorbs information like a sponge. Your brain craves for learning so do not limit yourself to what you learn in school. Continue learning at home and even when at play - everywhere really. Research shows that 'unless we use it, we lose it!' so entertain every chance you get to learn.

See the sights.

Information of all kinds will improve your life in some way, big or small. Stretch yourself to learn things beyond only what you are interested in. Be curious, be adventurous. Explore! Open your eyes and see the sights. It is not always good to stay in your comfort zone so do not hang out there for too long.

Know what eat.

Be conscious about the information you feed yourself. Do not be pressured by your peers. Just because everyone else enjoys it doesn't mean you will too. Just because everyone is doing it doesn't mean you should too. For example, take your appetite for books. Fiction is very popular with young people. You can allow yourself to enjoy a little bit of fiction but not too much. Substitute some of that fiction with biographies; these are stories too but they have extra value because they are true.

As Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motors has it, "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at 20 or 80. Anyone who keeps on learning stays young." So always keep your brain active.
