Did you ever ask your Mom or Dad or others to watch you do something such as play an instrument, dance, or shoot baskets. Do you remember the look in their eyes when they watched you?
You all need to feel worthwhile and valued. You need to feel recognized and openly admired. But, sadly, often you don't feel that way.
At first, you count on other people to help you feel worthwhile. In time, however, you will have to encourage and praise yourself because other kids won't be there to make us feel valuable when you really need it. What could you do in these situations? Here are a few tips.
1. When you fail, pick yourself up. You are valuable, regardless of the circumstances. You can make a mistake and still feel good about yourself. You don't need others to make you feel better about yourself.
2. When you feel down, know that you're not alone. There are others who are feeling the very same way. Just pick yourself up and reach out to others.
3. When you did something really great, reward yourself. This will give you a great pick you up and you will be propelled to continue doing your best.
4. Don't depend on others to make you feel worthwhile. Other kids and people won't be there when you need them all the time. Instead, depend on yourself for those times. Have a self-celebration party once in a while. You deserve it!
5. You are valuable regardless of what someone else thinks of you. Don't look for applause from others. If they come your way, be happy that they did. But otherwise, admire yourself for the wonderful person that you are.
By following these tips, you will feel much more valuable and worthwhile, regardless of whoever thinks or says that you are. When you depend on others for approval, and the approval that you seek isn't given to you when you want it, you will feel diminished. And you don't need to feel that way because you are a special person that no one else can emulate or celebrate because you are unique and wonderful just as you are.
