10 Self-Esteem Boosts

Posture
Straighten your back. Relax your shoulders. Uncross your arms and legs. Smile. Raise your eyes to look straight ahead. When you hold your body like a person with high self-esteem you will feel more full of self-esteem. A very quick self-esteem boost!

Films
There are plenty of film that have the effect of boosting people's self-esteem. You can watch "normal" films that you feel are good for you, and you can also search for short films specifically designed for giving you a self-esteem boost. For example you can watch films with positive self-esteem affirmations (subliminal affirmations or affirmations that you can consciously perceive).

Music
Listen to your favourite self-esteem song whenever you feel like you need a fun self-esteem boost. Make sure that it is full of positive lyrics and that it fills you with energy.

Shake/dance
If you're getting into a low mood and negative thoughts sneak into your head you can try to shake this negativity off by dancing or jumping or shaking your body as violently as you can. You can then start over again with new positive thoughts. A feeling of higher self- esteem and a higher mood will follow.

Laugh
Laughing makes you happy whether or not you were happy when you started laughing. It's difficult to not feel great about yourself when you feel happy. Anything that makes you happy can therefore work as a self-esteem boost.

Affirmations
If you make up some really powerful affirmations that work for you, saying these affirmations can work as a great self-esteem boost. Find the right words that excite you and empower you.

Notebook
Get a small notebook where you write down three different things: (1) good acts that you do (e.g. when you help others, when you eat a healthy meal, when you get your work done early, when you listen to a friend etc), (2) compliments that others give you (i.e. whenever somebody tells you something positive about yourself), and (3) good things that happen to you (e.g. when you find exactly what you need at the right time or other small miracles that might look like coincidences). Writing one or all of these things down will train you to look for the positive things in your life and when you're in need of a self-esteem boost you can open your book and reread what you have written.

Change environment
If you get stuck in a negative way of thinking you might need to change your environment to get you unstuck. Go to your favourite place or visit a place where you have never been. Start anew!

Physical exercises
Running, boxing, belly dancing, martial arts and yoga are examples of physical exercises that you can do to raise your self-confidence and thereby also your self-esteem. They can make you feel powerful, competent and they can make you get a better relationship with your own body.

Collect positive mails
Make a special folder for "wonderful mails" on your computer. Whenever you receive an email full of compliments or other positive messages, save it! These positive mails can be useful to reread when you want to boost your self-esteem.
