Be a Stress Buster!

Stress is normal. We all go through stress for one point or another. Stress is how our bodies and minds react to any type of variation in our lives. Stress influences our bodies, our behaviors, and our thoughts and emotions. For instance, the pressure of stress might decrease your ability to concentrate on an important exam or project. On the other hand, stress can also be a motivating factor and help you achieve a task.

People experience difference signs of stress. The symptoms include fatigue, changes in eating and/or sleeping habits, sadness, mood swings, stomach aches, nausea, teeth grinding, and an increased use of drugs or alcohol. If you recognize any of these symptoms in yourself, it is time for you to take a closer look at your life.

Is there something bothering you and causing you to worry? When do you feel the most stressed? Can you change or avoid the situation? If you can change the situation with no ill effects to yourself, then change it quickly. If the circumstances cannot be changed, then you must modify yourself and become a Stress Buster. Below are a few tips for your Stress Busting tool belt.

Don't be afraid to seek out support from family members, friends, and anyone with whom you feel comfortable. Sometimes, an honest conversation with a caring person can help deflate the largest of stress bubbles. If there's no one available for a chat, meditate or practice yoga. Take some deep breaths to calm your nerves. Get active. Enjoy a brisk walk around the neighborhood or even in the office parking lot if you're at work. Exercise will rejuvenate your body and your mind.

Most importantly, take care of yourself. It takes a great deal of energy to be a Stress Buster, and if you don't eat properly and get enough sleep, you'll only be contributing to the stress, not fighting it.
