Financial Stress is the condition that occurs when the amount of money you have coming in is less than the amount of money you have going out. This condition causes unwanted pressure on family life as well as on personal health.
The affects of financial stress include:
Increase in Worry
You worry about not being able to pay bills, especially the overdue ones. Your inability to buy all the items you require, like items for the home or your children. Especially if you can see your children going without the items they need or that other children have and you are not able to provide as you wanted to as you didn't have them when you were a child. Some people also worry about having arguments with their spouse or loved ones due to the tension arising as a result of financial stress. Also, your inability to save money for a "rainy day" can be a source of stress as well as if you always have calls from debt collectors.
Negative Behavioural Changes
All of this worrying can then result in a host of other challenges. Some of which are increased chances of heart attack, diabetes, depression and hair loss. This is because the individual dealing with financial stress will try to block out their worries by engaging in drinking, overeating, smoking or a host of other unhealthy behaviours in an effort to ease their worries. However, these behaviours only leads to more stress as they themselves have their affects on your health and relationships.
Lack of Sleep
Dealing with financial stress can also result in lost of sleep due to the individual constantly worrying about their financial situation and what they can do about it. This lack of sleep then starts to cause impairment in cognitive abilities, increase in moodiness and weakening of the immune system.
A Lack in Self Care
Another affect of financial stress is how it slowly causes people to take less care of their health due to having less money in their budget. This causes them to cut corners as it applies to health care and buying nutritious food to eat. In the end the person just adds to their stress as a health problems seldom go away unchecked and can become more serious.
Negative Emotions
People dealing with financial stress tend to have increase levels of anxiety, frustration and a feeling that every thing is hopeless as they find themselves becoming deeper and deeper into debt. This can result in them moving away from relationships and becoming depressed.
Thus, the negative emotions coupled with the other affects of financial stress can make for a dangerous cocktail against your health and relationships.
